Client Example: Nonprofit Board Effectiveness

Collaborated with a NYC nonprofit dedicated to using theatre and the creative process as means to engage urban students, families and communities in dialogue and problem solving around vital social issues. Established after September 11 and driven by a strong sense of purpose, the nonprofit grew rapidly, successfully expanding in several directions before reaching a point where existing resources were at capacity and change was required to continue to scale and grow.

With input from the Board of Directors, executive leadership and other staff members, a new board structure was established, along with new operating norms and a recruiting and marketing plan to evolve the board’s talent composition in alignment with strategic growth opportunities. As part of the change process, board members were asked to recommit and choose among several roles. Everyone involved was equipped with a new set of tools and resources enabling them to implement the changes and repeat the strategic alignment process as needed in the future.
